A lifting project in the olympic stadium


The olympic stadium is one of the most magnificent work of arts of Ukraine's indoor sport complex located in Kiev. It is a very difficult,  sophisticated & unique process of lifting the guy wires, ropes & cables using hydrolic jacks and pneumatic electronc contol systems....

A Lifting Project In The Olympic Stadium

The Olympic stadium is one of the Ukraine indoor sport complex located in Kiev. Recently a large guy system was lifted here. It is a unique and very difficult process.








The main components of the system are an inner circle, guy ropes and hydraulic stations.
Before lifting it is necessary to fix hawsers on upper guy lines that will support lower guy lines with a coping in the right position.
Sometimes clips on the guy ropes are just connected with each other.
The process of the system stabilization goes parallel to the ropes fastening. It is provided by struts that are rigid constructions preventing the system from bends while the workload is changed.
During the lifting of guy lines the load-bearing constructions are fixed by hawsers and additional jacks.
Now it is time for lifting. Firstly go the upper guy ropes, then the inner circle and lower ropes come at the end.
Anchors serve for avoiding of unnecessary bends and for simplifying of the lifting process.
80 pairs of hydraulic jacks help to make lifting.
Different sensors control the workload of jacks.
Jacks work rather quickly: 2-3 minutes for lifting, 8-10 for backing into the initial position, changing of hawsers and then a cycle repeats.
The jacks control is made manually and centrally from this small trailer.
Different specialists including geodesists calculate here performances of jacks and stations.
Italian specialists also work there.
Jacks, winches and even beetle are used for hawsers fastening.
Guy ropes, hawsers and wooden backings are lifted with a great crack.
After long movements and checkings the circle is risen at last.
German engineers control the process.
Then the inner circle sets against hawsers of stabilization.
After this it is necessary to throw them under the circle with the help of…
a jack and…
a winch.
Then workers take off the hawsers of stabilization.
After that hawsers are returned in their initial positions and the inner circle sinks.
